During the year various events cheer up Montecchio's life.
On last Sunday of April and on 1st May the town enters in a medieval
atmosphere to relive the historical challenge among Montecchi's and
Capuleti's families and to relish the colors of a fifteenth-century suburb.
"Montecchi" and "Capuleti" are the names of the teams that compare
themselves in a "feud", constituted by a series of challenging tests,
based on true polite games of medieval origin. At the end of every
competition, the defeated leader suffers the "shame".

The final prize is the "palio", kept by the winning team till the following
edition. Historical event is accompanied by Juliet's and Romeo's election,
selected among "fearless boys and polite girls" that compete to clothe
themselves in the two lovers. The chosen persons represent for one year the
city of Montecchio Maggiore in various events.
During the medieval day, a real fifteenth-century village is reconstructed and
animated by a typical market, by armigers, alchemists, jugglers, knights, and
by exhibitions and entertainments, rigorously in medieval style. |
